East Kent Recycling Limited provides waste management and transportation to businesses and residential customers across the county of Kent.
The majority of customers are commercial including construction, industrial and public sector services. The overview of services includes skip and roll-on-roll-off hire, waste transportation, waste segregation and sorting, waste managing planning and reporting. The fleet currently consists of 20 skip lorries, 7 roll-on-roll-off lorries, 1 cage lorry and 2 tippers.
Kimberly Campion, Marketing Manager for the business, saw information about TALE in the Swale District Council newsletter. She contacted Business Support Facilitator Fred Thomas, who then had an initial meeting to discuss how TALE may be able to support their business. After discussing the project further during a diagnostic session in August 2019, it became apparent that East Kent Recycling Limited would greatly benefit from a new digital logistics system.
The majority of their systems were manual. They predicted that they were printing 350,000 sheets of paper each year and these need to be stored for 7 years. Their accuracy of information was at risk due to human error and they were experiencing daily errors. The new system looked to digitise every step and included route planning for their fleet with integration with TomTom telematics.
They projected that this digital transformation would enable the company to receive a return of investment of over £100,000 in the first 12 months after installation. Due to the increase in their efficiency, they will be able to employ a new driver within the first 12 months. The company will also be able to provide paperless, automated reporting on waste movements, weights, types and billing for their customers. East Kent Recycling were approved £40,000 towards this project.
Kimberlay said “We were delighted to be awarded a grant from TALE towards revolutionising our logistics system; it has helped to make our project a reality. Fred gave practical and tailored support making the process smooth and achievable. Our new system is key to remaining competitive and efficient.”
