About the company

Milbank Concrete Products manufacturers precast concrete used in the construction of buildings. Their customers are in agriculture, the public sector, recreational, residential, and commercial sectors. Projects range from a family needing a small shed base for their back garden to large installations for companies like IKEA. Milbank provides a complete service from design and technical support to manufacturing, installation, and delivery (including their crane and haulage offering).

A need to upgrade

The support for Milbank’s Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system was about to end, having been developed in 2005. It also wouldn’t work with Windows 10. They needed an ERP upgrade otherwise they would be vulnerable to cyber-attacks and loss of data.

Milbank Director, David Costin, was referred to TALE by the BEST Growth Hub. Business Support Facilitator, Sian Dowell, helped Milbank with a grant application and they were awarded £58,000 towards their upgrade project.

The solution

Milbank's new bespoke ERP system was developed in Autodesk Rivet. The addition of a custom-built module allowed them to draw and edit drawings and then send them to customers. These could then be pushed through to the production planner. This optimised their materials and production.

Once manufactured, the system produced job tickets containing information such as where to install on-site and optimise loading for the different types of delivery vehicles (articulated, rigid, and Hiab). It also looked at the total tonnage allowed on each vehicle to optimise load carrying capacity and advised on installation sequences.

Milbank was also able to offer a new service for customers; Building Information Model (BIM) designed products. This meant customers could digitally sign off the drawings rather than needing to print an email.

All grants are funded by the ERDF (European Regional Development Fund).
