T. Chambers & Son are a timber merchants based in East London. In addition to timber, they also sell sheet materials and insulation, mouldings and architrave. T Chambers serves retail customers and works with building contractors to refurbish homes. Their aim is to provide their customers with the best quality products for their budget.

In 2019, Director Claire Chambers wanted to increase profits coming from larger, bulk sales. To achieve this the business needed up-to-date data on their stock, and to better organise the logistics and delivery of timber products for bulk orders. The business needed to adopt new processes and invest in systems to support them.

Claire engaged Alan Martin of Vision Reach to review their operations and processes and help them source a new logistics system. Alan referred the business to Sian Dowell, Business Support Facilitator for the TALE project. After completing an application with Sian’s support T. Chambers were approved for £2,000 grant funding.

Implementing a new software system helped the business streamline their logistics activities by automating some of their current processes, routinely tracking activities and developing more efficient planning of day-to-day operations. T Chambers were able to offer a new service for their customers; allowing customers to choose a time slot, and allowing them to track their deliveries. They were also able to add on an after-sales follow up, letting customers rate their improved services.

All Grants are funded by the ERDF (European Regional Development Fund).
